De Lama'sDe Penismixen1994MYellow YellowBelgiumNM/NM10 €
Controversial band who scored a few hits in 1994-1995. The group was formed in 1993, with Peter Slabbynck (ex-Red Zebra, ex-The Boy Wonders), Kloot Per W (ex-Employees, ex-Polyphonic Size and always Kloot Per W ...), Karel Theys (ex-Employees, ex-Clouseau) and Steven De Cort (ex-Mama's Jasje). Later on Joris Decaesstecker replaced Karel Theys, and Mies Meulders joined as Lolita Lama. After a first EP in 1993 (Blijf Binnen, Laatste Woorden, Grootste Fan) the group made a breakthrough with the song "De Ideale Penis" (the ideal penis). This song became a huge radio-hit, due to the controversial lyrics ("Sometimes, he did let his head drop, he felt a little limp - Sometimes he had no desire, he had no juice - the ideal penis - it doesn't exist - too thick, too small, too short, too long, too green, too purple - it all matters so much") and the attention on Studio Brussels in the program Hallo Hautekiet. Normally, the single would also have entered the Flemish Top 10, but according to Kloot Per W, "for censorship reasons none our songs featured in the list, or where shown in 'Tien om te zien'." After a third single "Elke centimeter" (every square inch), which enjoyed even more airplay and higher sales, they released a full album in February 1995. "Edele Delen" (Private Parts), with a cat's ass on the cover, received devastating reviews by the critics : the late Jacky Huys wrote "What the heck are we to do with the ordinary, puberastic, badly played and recorded metal of The Lama's ? It's pathetic" and Humo wrote "Is this record controversial, daring or provocative ? Absolutely ! Even we wouldn't dare to walk on the street with this." Band members : - Peter Slabbynck (vocals) - Lolita Lama AKA Mies Meulders (vocals) - Kloot per W (guitar, hair, samples, programming) - H. Joris Decaesstecker / Karel Theys (bass) - Steven De Cort (drums)

La Muerte is the more experimental follow-up of the Brussels-based collective Marine (see Marine). The more mainstream & funky part of Marine also continued to make music, under the flag of Allez Allez (see Allez Allez). La Muerte is a quartet formed around singer Marc Du Marais, which is at the same time admired and rejected by the Belgian musical world. The music of La Muerte can be situated somewhere on the lines between The Birthday Party & The Stooges, between blues and heavy-metal. Their mini-album "The surrealist mystery" causes quite a stir. On the left you find a track from the album, a cover from the Troggs' classic "Wild thing". Their best-received album is "Every soul by sin oppressed", where more blues-influences shimmer through the wall of fuzz-guitars. A notable track on that album is also a cover, of Mannish Boy, with Arno on harmonica. 1994 sees the announcement of a split. As Humo wrote at the time: "La Muerte has decided to cease the hostilities. There seem to be no artistic differences of opinion, no one has got hit by a bus, no one is having health problems, no one has stolen their tour money and no one has left off with the friend of the guitarist. Strange. For 10 years, La Muerte has been one of the most extreme, but at the same time one of the more successful Belgian bands. And just as the world seems to get ready for the Harder Stuff, just as musical goddamn fucking noise is shaking the music industry, just as a whole generation of youngsters falls for heavy guitars, La Muerte announces its farewell concert. Peculiar. Not to say, a bit stupid". Members : - Marc Du Marais (vocals, guitar) - Dee J - Paul Dunlop - Michel De Greef - Michael Wang

Very fine example of Belgian Cold Wave. This group was also known as L.A. Work. The sad story behind this record is that it was dedicated to sleeve designer Mike Heuskel, who after sharing all the problems of production of this record, did not live long enough to see or hear the result. The inner-sleeve has a dedication and the signature of the 3 band-members!!!! Produced by the infamous Luc Van Acker! Guitar: Phil.Eloy Guitar: Pascal Champagne Vocals: Alexander Louvet Keyboard & drumcomputer: Lattice Work
